This new architectural installation is part Twenty-First century tensile structure and part tribute to Disney Studio's sci-fi cult film "The Black Hole". The installation is designed to warp the flow of an outdoor space with a feather-weight rendition of "the deadliest force in the Universe" constructed in tinted mylar resembling stained glass. It swirls above the outdoor courtyard all summer long. An assembly of 512 unique instances of a single but parametrically variable component, the canopy's extreme intricacy and repetitiveness pay homage to actor Maximilian Schell's character, Dr. Reinhardt, in "The Black Hole", a tyrant who wishes to harness the "power of the vortex" and possess "the great truth of the unknown!"

Una charla que organiza la escuela Berghs en Estocolmo sobre "Advergaming", una especie de juegos de ordenador que publicitan cosas. Me ha hecho ilusión ver la frase Let's Play!!!

El fenomeno Advergaming explicado en Wikipedia:
Advergaming is the practice of using video games to advertise a product, organization or viewpoint. The term "advergames" was coined in January 2000 by Anthony Giallourakis who purchased the domain names Advergames.com along with Adverplay.com. Reklamspel (advergaming) spås en fortsatt stark tillväxt. Företagsanalytiker uppskattar att intäkterna från reklamspel kommer att öka från 260 USD under 2007 till 500 miljoner USD under 2009.

Spelteknologi och spelkulturens sociala normer har stor inverkan på hur vi föreställer oss framtiden och framtidens kommunikation. Virtuell design sätter sin prägel även i andra sammanhang, bland annat inom industriell design och i Hollywoodproduktioner, men också i sättet som svenska företag kommunicerar med sina kunder i interaktiva lösningar. Ese "casi nada" se llama The life of a Shadow y es una acción de street art de Ellis G. un artista de Brooklyn que se ha dedicado a siluetar, con una simple tiza blanca, todas las sombras inspiradoras que ha encontrado a su paso.

Vehículos aparcados en la calle, mobiliario urbano, persianas, mesas, sillas... todo lo que proyecta su sombra sobre las calles de Nueva York es susceptible de ser siluetado por este artista.

Su obra es tan perecedera, que bastan unas pisadas o una simple lluvia para que desaparezca sin dejar el menor rastro de su existencia. Arte con una fecha de caducidad demasiado corta, eso me gusta.

Para compensar la desagradable carga de carne del anterior post, os dejo unas imágenes algo relajantes algo claustrofóbicas e inquietantes en cualquier caso.

Se trata de la instalación que los arquitectos japoneses del estudio Sanaa han elegido, como obra permanente para su Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Kanazawa y que ha sido creada por el artista argentino Leandro Erlich.

Los visitantes del museo tienen la posibilidad de acceder a un mundo subacuático donde todo es azul verdoso y el sonido del exterior llega amortiguado por el agua. De esta manera, el minutos antes, extrañado observador de este mundo irreal se convierte después en objeto observado por los que le preceden.

¿En qué lado del agua os gustaría habitar?.

Y ya que estaba me he dado una vuelta por la página de Leandro, no conocía su obra pero me ha sorprendido gratamente.

Según explican en ARQtipo "Leandro Erlich produce instalaciones fenomenológicas que juegan con nuestro sentido de la realidad a través de la astucia y la manipulación del espacio físico mediante efectos de simulación. Sus obras apelan a todos nuestros sentidos desafiando las reglas básicas de la percepción. Es aquí donde se origina el aplauso masivo que su arte ha evocado en los últimos tiempos: Erlich sabe apelar al espíritu juguetón de su público en el mundo entero, al sumergir a sus espectadores en un mundo de ilusión".

And for that he thought we should make some investigation on what kind of things could be seen as a meeting point and what kind of objects to people remember. and he recomended the book:

italian artist michelangelo pistoletto is currently showing at galleria continua, in beijing. the artist's work makes use of mirrors or mirrored surfaces, often with paintings of life-size figures overlaid. the current show features a new body of works that display references to his past work while expanding on it. occupying the main exhibition space is 'labyrinth', a 5m white cube centered in a room filled with a corrugated cardboard maze. the white cube is lined with mirrors on its interior. 2100 meters of

En geometría un teseracto o hipercubo es una figura formada por dos cubos tridimensionales desplazados en un cuarto eje dimensional (llamemos al primero longitud, el segundo altura y el tercero profundidad). En un espacio tetradimensional, el teseracto es un cubo de cuatro dimensiones. Se compone de 8 celdas cúbicas, 24 caras cuadradas, 32 aristas y 16 vértices, esto tomando en cuenta el desarrollo del polinomio

donde el valor de n equivale al número de dimensiones (en este caso particular 4) y x es el largo, alto, ancho... etc de la figura polidimensional equilátera.

No podemos ver un hipercubo porque estamos "encerrados" en tres dimensiones, por lo que solo podemos ver la sombra de lo que seria un hipercubo. Se parece a dos cubos anidados, con todos los vértices conectados por líneas. Pero en el teseracto real de cuatro dimensiones todas las líneas tendrían la misma longitud y todos los ángulos serían ángulos rectos.

bien.... por que cuento esto? creo que ni yo lo sé, pero creo que todo tiene una geometría más compleja de lo que parece, y.... si se descubre un poquito sobre esta geometría, se conocera de donde vienen las formas, y tal vez, no las utilicemos tan mal...........

Once inside the gates, design and architectural experiments were everywhere. The cubes naturally felt obliged to participate, and so made a basic “no-legs-showing” b-structure -

- and then an experimental take on the “Vertical like Net” shape with a surprising last-box-up variant.

Satisfied with this performance, the cubes found a nice area bathed in light from a very big mirror ball and had a rest. The cubewearers parted from the cubes and went inside the exhibition, leaving the cubes unsupervised in a 4+3 vertically stacked position.

Drama struck 2 hours later when the cubewearers met again under the mirror ball. The cubes were gone! Kidnapped! A very bad situation for the cubewearers, whose basic premiss it is to wear cubes, and therefore cannot be cubewearers without cubes. Time stood still for a moment, untill suddenly a cube was spotted running around in the open space in front of the exhibition, and the chase began. Other cubes were spotted as the first was caught, unveiling the first fake cubewearer as a teenage girl.

When the other cube-nappers showed to be merely young boys and girls, a new understanding dawned on the cubewearers: the young people were just playing, having no bad intentions in mind. They had seen the cubes stacked up, alone, and had wanted to experience the joy of cubewearing themselves. And who were the cubewearers, who themselves knew that joy better than any, to deny them that? And so they all parted in good spirits, a little wisdom and a few new friends richer.

The story behind the cubes.

The 5th of April was a warm sunny day in Milan, a welcome change for 5 pale young men, just arriving from grey rainy London.
It was the day to kick off the project! After planning and sketching on a desk in London, it was a very different and exciting experience finally to be there, in the streets of Milan, putting on the cubes.
None of us could help laughing as we carefully started to move around in the cubes and practise our different poses/sculptures. A cube almost work like a blindfold, it heavily limits your view, but on the same time it feels like you have a shield around you, like nothing can hurt you. It makes you feel like a blind kid on steroids.

The first aim was the opening day of the Milan Triennalle, a big design exhibition in Parco Sempione, where the plan was to create an invasion of cubes.

But what was not planned was how to open the doors! Without any arms and hands available, the cubes were stuck outside for some time, and so decided to improvise a cube sculpture.

Soon enough, though, a helpful man understood the situation and let the cubes in.

Once inside the Trienalle, the five cubes quickly became the center of attention. A bit dazzled by this attention, they formed one of the classic cube combinations “vertical like Net” in the middle of the impressive entrance hall.

As if this piece of spontaneous design was an insult to the establishment, the cubes were immediately approached by the staff, who made it clear, in several languages, that they did not want cubes in their exhibition. Cubes are not troublemakers and therefore politely receded to a more friendly and somehow familiar atmosphere outside the exhibition.

Here is a selection of images of the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, including the Art Suites created by artists from around the world. The temporary hotel is created from snow and ice each winter.

The dropping of the temperature to several degrees below zero in Jukkasjärvi marks the start of an ephemeral art endeavour. Using only frozen water form the Torne River, artists from all over the world gather in this small Swedish village, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, to create an exclusive art exhibition: ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi.

Nosigner - techtile exhibition

Japanese designer Nosigner created the space for an exhibition called Techtile at the University of Tokyo last November.TECHTILE exhibition mainly staged by 2 researchers of the university, Yasuaki Kakehi, Masashi Nakatani and nosigner. The exhibition focuses at integration of tactile design & latest tactile technology. Nosigner designed visual identities & space design.

Her is what Nosigner has to say:

I was wondering about the primordial tactile experience
before I designed the space.

And finally, I realized the thermal sensing like touching ice
is one of the most primitive tactile experience.

In this exhibition design, I tried to make the space
where recall the memory of tactual sensation of ice.

‘Tacticicle’ is the trial to make huge icicle made from food wrap film.
Huge icicle tubes are made from food wrap film more than 10000m.

You can feel as if your own body get iced in the space.

100% Design, 100% Roca

Roca celebra la entrega de premios de la 2ª Edición del Concurso Internacional de Diseño en la Feria Internacional 100% Design de Londres.

A lo largo de su historia, Roca ha consolidado su liderazgo, posicionándose como referente en innovación y apostando continuamente por la calidad, el diseño y la aplicación de la última tecnología en todos sus productos.

Esta voluntad de mejora continua se traduce en los nuevos desafíos que Roca lanza en el sector. Con el Concurso Internacional de Diseño, Roca proporciona una plataforma para jóvenes creativos que les ofrece la oportunidad y la libertad de diseñar un entorno personal de bienestar en el baño.

En esta ocasión, el tema del concurso es el “Wellness”, el objetivo es recibir nuevas visiones de los productos que conforman el bienestar, originales soluciones y nuevos espacios funcionales con la última tecnología integrada.

150 Diseñadores de ocho países distintos han presentado sus atrevidas propuestas superando con creces el número de proyectos expuestos en la primera edición. Los nuevos países participantes en el concurso (Alemania, Grecia y Holanda) han ampliado la dimensión internacional al desafío de Roca, algunos de los cuales han alcanzado un merecido lugar como finalistas.

El líder mundial del sector Sanitario vuelve a ser foco de interés en una de las ferias más prestigiosas del sector, aprovechando la ocasión para llevar a cabo la entrega de premios del ganador de la 2ª Edición del Concurso Internacional de Diseño Roca.

Tras valorar más de 95 proyectos, un jurado compuesto por reconocidos profesionales del diseño y la arquitectura, entre ellos, Benedetta Tagliabue, clasificaron “Watermassage”, de Alberto Nogueras Castillo (Estudiante de la Escuela Superior de Diseño de Sabadell) como la mejor solución “Wellness” de entre todos los participantes.

El espectacular prototipo del ganador está expuesto en el stand de Roca en 100% Design y, además, recibirá la dotación económica con que contaba el concurso.

100% Design es una de las exposiciones de diseño contemporáneo más importante del mundo, donde se exhibe lo último en cuartos de baño, cocinas, mobiliario y accesorios.

Esta exposición promete del 20 al 23 de septiembre una excitante muestra de jóvenes creativos y de los más destacados talentos del mundo del diseño, que reúne en total a más de 450 expositores y a renombrados profesionales que muestran sus últimas propuestas.

El stand reúne, además de la futurista Cabina de Hidroterapia Watermassage, las últimas novedades que desprenden diseño como la grifería EVOL y KENDO además de las series VERANDA, FRONTALIS, ELIPTIC o BOL.
